Home>> How To Increase Natural Light In Your Home
Is your home lacking that airy, open feel? Introducing more natural light, or items that mimic natural light can completely change the mood of your home. We’ve put together some tips and tricks on how to accomplish this.
Some of you may prefer a moody, maximalist style and we LOVE that, but for those of you wanting to channel a minimalist airy feel, we have the tips:
Install Skylights
Not everyone may have the ability to do so, but this will absolutely allow for more light to come in. Optimal placement in a kitchen or bathroom can really brighten up the space.
Use High Gloss Paint
Paint that is high gloss will allow light to bounce off of the walls.
Choose light-colored curtains
Using light or white colored curtains will allow the natural light to shine through even when closed!
Use Light Color Paint
While fun bold colors are gorgeous, if you are looking to open up a room using neutral tones is a great way to accomplish a brighter feel.
Pro Tip: Paint your ceilings white, it will help reflect existing natural light into the room.
Mirrors Mirrors Mirrors
Mirrors not only make a room look bigger but they can also aid in reflecting existing natural light to different areas of the home.
Rearrange furniture
Rearranging your furniture to compliment your natural lighting can help make the room feel bright and airy. For example, it’s best not to place a large couch or chair in front of the window potentially blocking the light.
Minimal Decor
This is totally dependant on your personal preference, but selecting a few pieces of decor for a room can help the room feel less cluttered and dark.
Add More Lighting
This is a no-brainer, but you want to make sure you are adding the right type of lighting. Don’t forget about strategically placed floor lamps, lamps on nightstands or dressers. When choosing lamps, be sure to pick lighter color lamp shades to allow for more light to flow through. We love this super bright floor lamp from target:
Add a Pop of Light with a Rug
Adding a large white or neutral-colored rug can help brighten up the space.
Trying just a few of these tips out can really help to amplify the appearance of more natural light!
