Geneva Dallas/Ft Worth Focuses on Local Communities and Housing Needs

The Dallas/Ft Worth Branch of Geneva Financial is headed up by Louis Baca, Branch Manager. Louis' history and background in the industry is well respected. His belief has remained steady to serve the communities around him and all people living in them.  One of the first goals for the branch is to support and work with our veterans.  Teaming up with the Veterans Resource Center in Dallas is only a first step for what is to come.

One out of fifty children or 1.5 million children in the United States of America will be homeless each year.  In 2013 alone, that number jumped to one out of 30 children or 2.5 million.  During this same time there were an estimated 57,849 homeless veterans in the United States in January of 2013, basically, 12 percent of all homeless adults. Texas, California and Florida have the highest numbers of unaccompanied homeless youth under the age of 18, comprising 58% of the total homeless under 18 population.

Amnesty International USA reported the vacant houses outnumbered the homeless people by five times.

In 2014, 7 million people in poor households were doubled up with family and friends, this being the most common living situation before becoming homeless. Those in poverty households pay more than 50 percent of their income toward housing, totalling 6.6 million in 2014 and increasing each year.

Ft. Worth: In January 2016, more than 400 volunteers and about 100 members of law enforcement canvassed Tarrant and Parker counties to count the homeless population. Ft Worth homeless population is up 24%.

Dallas: The number of homeless dropped slightly from 2016 to 2017. The shelters remain overcrowded and full every night. The percentage of homeless living on the streets increased.

Estimations show there are 5,000 plus homeless vets in North Texas. They have seen things civilians can't imagine and unfortunately sometimes turn to drugs or alcohol to try and cope.

The Veterans Resource Center is here to help, and now Geneva Dallas/Ft Worth is participating. They are located at  4900 S. Lancaster in Oak Cliff.  If you'd like to donate items or volunteer call 214.372.8820 or go online to VeteransResourceCenter.org or HVSD.org

In addition, Baca's Geneva team has sponsored golf tournaments supporting Military Heroes in need. Recently this included one for a family of four that lost their home in Hurricane Harvey.
